On Friday evening, the Ocean Explorer was released by authorities and has now departed Alpefjord, Greenland. The Ocean Explorer will now proceed to Iceland, arriving on September 17th. Currently the vessel is heading for Reykjavik, with Akureyri as an alternative port, depending on the weather situation. In Iceland, an underwater inspection will be conducted to assess any potential damages sustained from the grounding.
Passengers will be able to spend some days in Iceland before being flown back home. During the stay in Iceland, Aurora Expedition will offer different sightseeing arrangements.
SunStone would like to thank the Greenland Police, the Sirius Patrol, Danish Maritime Authority,Bahamas Maritime Authority, and Bureau Veritas for good and close cooperation in getting the vessel authorized to depart Greenland and continue to Iceland.
